Better known as'meltblown', polypropylene fibres are created by blowing extremely thin squirts of polypropylene at a high speed and temperature (oil-based product).
Meltblown fine fibres are continuously gathered and set down to create a mat; this fibre generation process imposes a large charge on the surface of the fibres, making them water resistant (hydrophobic).
The mat repels water but develops bonds with other liquids that share the same molecular structure - such as oil and other hydrocarbons - making it perfect for oil-based liquid cleanup.
The mat is not attracted to water-based substances and repels them in the same manner as the identical poles of a magnet repel.
